2023 Journeyman Electrician Jump Start Package If you’re ready to start preparing for the Journeyman Electrician exam in Georgia, you don’t need a pile of random resources—you need a clean starting point that builds real exam skills fast.

How does the Journeyman Electrician exam work?

The Journeyman Electrician exam is a TDLR license exam given by PSI. TDLR approves your application first, then you schedule with PSI and have one year from the application date to pass.

The PSI exam has two portions: 59 NEC knowledge items in 130 minutes and 26 calculation items in 110 minutes.
The exam fee is $78 for both portions and the TDLR application fee is $30.
TDLR licenses Texas electricians, and PSI gives every exam with a 70 percent passing score on each portion.
Since September 1, 2026, the exams are written to the 2026 National Electrical Code, the edition Texas adopted on July 28, 2026.
The exams are open book: bring a soft-bound NEC, highlighted and noted before the exam, with only the publisher's permanent index tabs. Homemade and other tabs are not allowed.
Licenses renew every year with 4 hours of continuing education covering the NEC, Texas electrician law and rules, and NFPA 70E.

Not for a current exam. Texas electrical exams have used the 2026 NEC since September 1, 2026, so pick a 2026 edition for a current exam. The 2023 edition suits candidates who already own that code book or are studying ahead of a retest they booked earlier.

Is the Journeyman Electrician exam open book?

Yes. Texas electrician exams are open book with your own soft-bound 2026 NEC. Highlighting, underlining and notes made before the exam are fine, but only the publisher's permanent index tabs are allowed; homemade and other tabs are not.

Who issues the license or certification?

It comes from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Buying study material does not register you or make you eligible to test.
